Children & Youth

The vision for youth and children ministries at Calvary is to raise up God-fearing children who love the Lord with all of their heart, soul, and mind and who, instead of being shaped by the influences of this world, are being transformed “by the renewing of their minds” (Rom. 12:2).

How? First, by equipping parents through prayer, teaching, and fellowship. Second, by offering unique discipleship opportunities to each child at Calvary (see below).

Calvary Youth and Children’s Programs

Little Lambs – Ages 3 months up to 3 years

The nursery age children, 3 months to three years, enjoy a warm, safe and friendly environment during the Sunday school and church time. Free play combined with reading age appropriate Bible stories and listening to worship music, creates a sweet environment for the little lambs. We want the child at this age to know God’s love for them through the loving arms and voices taking care of them each Sunday morning.

Little Disciples – Ages 3 years to 5 years

Little Disciples meet during the Sunday school hour for an interactive time of sharing and learning about God’s Word. A full pre-school curriculum is followed using felt boards, puppets, and workbooks to teach the children more about Jesus and how to have a personal relationship with Him.

After Sunday school, this age group meets their parents in the sanctuary for a time of worship and then is dismissed for a second opportunity to learn more about Jesus. Building from the Sunday school story, the children delve deeper into the Bible story and learn how to respond to what Jesus is telling them.

Kids of the Kingdom – Kindergarten – 5th grade

The Kids of the Kingdom meet during the Sunday school hour to study God’s Word and learn how to apply the Word to their lives today. The children keep prayer journals and have a wonderful time of prayer each Sunday.

After Sunday school, this age group meets their parents in the sanctuary for a time of worship and then is dismissed for a second opportunity to learn more about their relationship with Jesus. Through a thought provoking curriculum, role-playing and discussion groups, the children truly grow in their relationship with Christ.

Youth and Young Adults – 6th grade and up

This age group enjoys an interactive discipleship study during the Sunday school hour with the young women making up one class and the young men making up a second class. Sharing and praying, these groups become an intimate accountability group that supports and encourages each other in his or her journey with Christ.

Third Fridays – The third Friday of each month the youth and young adults get together for relaxed fellowship with each other either in someone’s home or for a special activity such ice skating, bowling, Christian concerts, etc. This gives the youth and young adults a great opportunity to invite friends and build relationships with each other.

Special Events – The youth and young adults periodically come together for special events such as skiing weekends, camping, etc… Several years ago, the youth participated in a church-wide missions trip, and we are looking forward to repeating this in the future.

Home Groups

Each week, families participate in home groups throughout the Jacksonville area. For the children this is a time of playing, learning, and worshipping in an intergenerational setting. The children begin each meeting with the adults, and after worship separate into another area where an adult home group participant teaches their lesson on a rotating basis. This gives both the children and the adults a time to bond and share. We at Calvary believe a child is just as much a member of the body as an adult. Therefore, it is our goal to make the home group experience for the child just as incredible as it is for the adult.
